Man accused of murdering his family in Tijeras found incompetent to stand trial

TIJERAS, N.M. (KRQE) – The man charged with murdering his family at their Tijeras home has been committed to the state mental health hospital. Adlai Mestre is accused of killing his father, Raymundo, his mother, Bertha, and 17-year-old sister Breille last October before dragging their bodies to a ravine roughly 50 yards from their home.

After the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office arrested him, he kicked a hole in an interrogation room and tried to escape before deputies stopped him. Court documents state that a judge found Mestre incompetent to stand trial and ordered that he be sent to the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute in Las Vegas for treatment. His competency will be reviewed at a later date.
