LUNA COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Law enforcement held a special ceremony Thursday morning in southern New Mexico to dedicate a police building to an officer who gave his life in the line of duty. In 2021, New Mexico State Police Officer Darian Jarrott was helping the Department of Homeland Security with an investigation when he was shot and killed on Interstate 10 in Luna County.
The NMSP District 12 building was dedicated to him in the ceremony on Thursday. “It is a lasting monument to their sacrifice, and a reminder to all who walk through these doors, of the bravery and commitment that it takes to serve. This building will not stand just as a structure, but as a testament to Officer Jarrott’s service, in a place where his story continues to be told,” said Jason Bowie, Cabinet Secretary for the Department of Public Safety.
