BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Bernalillo County held a groundbreaking ceremony for Fire Station 36, which is near Osuna and Edith.
The energy-efficient facility will be powered in part by an on-site solar energy system and house New Mexico’s first electric fire truck. The new station will replace the aging structure on nearby Bear Canyon Road.

The building will include 12 bunks, four apparatus bays, showers, a day room, a kitchen, essential support services and a community outreach building.
The project cost is approximately $15.8 million, funded through Bernalillo County general funds, public safety bonds, fire impact fees, and state grants. Work is expected to be completed by December of 2026.
