Isolated showers and storms will end overnight. Warmer weather returns Friday as a windy pattern begins.
Isolated storms have develop east of the Rio Grande Valley Thursday afternoon, with a couple producing hail, locally heavy rain, and gusty winds. Spotty, light showers have popped up along and west of the Rio Grande Valley, but most of that rain is evaporating before reaching the ground. It’s another very warm afternoon too for those that aren’t seeing cloud cover or rain. The showers and storms will end through the evening with clearing skies overnight.
Southwesterly winds will pick up a little Friday afternoon, especially in western New Mexico where gusts up to 40 mph are possible. This will bring in drier air and an elevated fire danger across the state. It will also bring in even warmer temperatures across New Mexico as well. Breezy to gusty winds are going to be the story for the next several days starting Friday. A cold front moves in Friday evening, bringing high temperatures back down to around average for this time of year this weekend. Winds will be stronger Saturday afternoon though, bringing a very high fire danger across southern New Mexico. They’ll be lighter on Sunday, but still breezy, and will still bring an elevated fire danger across the state.
Lighter winds are in store Monday as a ridge of high pressure nears New Mexico. Forecast uncertainty increases dramatically starting Tuesday. It is looking windier Tuesday afternoon across the state with a possibly more active weather pattern around the middle to end of next week.
