Man given life sentence after murdering transgender woman in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man who killed a transgender woman with whom he was having a years-long affair will spend the rest of his life behind bars. Jose Mendoza-Espinoza killed Sherlyn Marjorie in 2023. He claimed that Marjorie was trying to extort money from him, and he killed her to stop her from telling his wife about their affair.

A jury found him guilty of first-degree murder in February. On Tuesday, Judge Emeterio Rudolfo sentenced Mendoza-Espinoza to life for the murder.
