Clovis skunk first rabies case of the year

CLOVIS, N.M. (KRQE) – State health officials have confirmed the first case of rabies in New Mexico this year. The Health Department says a skunk in Clovis tested positive for the virus.

Rabies affects mammals like skunks, bats, and foxes but can spread to unvaccinated household pets. If someone is bitten by a rabid animal, wash the area immediately with soap and water and seek medical care as soon as possible.
