NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – WalletHub released its recent study and rankings on best and worst states for doctors in 2025. The study compares all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia, across 19 metrics. These metrics include average annual wage, number of hospitals per capita, opportunity and competition, malpractice liability insurance and more.

New Mexico ranked near the bottom of the list, coming in at 45th overall. In some individual metrics, New Mexico ranked 46th in medical environment and 41st in opportunity and competition.
