ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department arrested a 13-year-old who is accused of crashing a stolen car into a man who was riding his bike to work. Police identified the 13-year-old as Johnathan Overbay. Overbay was in the car with an 11-year-old and a 15-year-old boy who are also accused of participating in the crime that resulted in the death of 63-year-old Scott Dwight Habermehl.
In 2024, Habermehl was riding his bike to Sandia National Laboratory when he was hit by the car. Police said the kids recorded the crash, as the driver intentionally swerved onto a dedicated bike lane. Overbay was charged with an open count of murder. Police are still searching for the other two juveniles.
