Paws and Stripes holds inaugural adoption event

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – On Saturday, the Paws and Stripes location near San Mateo and Lomas hosted its inaugural adoption event, and it was a treat for everyone involved. Paws and Stripes is a local nonprofit that trains shelter dogs to be service dogs for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Saturday’s event was all about getting dogs out of the shelters and into homes. “It’s important for the dogs because they get lots of socialization with people coming in to visit with them, but also we need to get exposure out in the community so we can try to increase our adoptions. Adoptions have been really slow across the board recently,” says Chelsea Worley, Director of Operations for the East Mountain Animal Companion Project.

There was also a workshop to teach prospective pet parents about what to expect in the first 90 days of owning a new dog.
