ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The city has closed another “problematic hotel” on Iliff Road on Albuquerque’s westside.
The Days Inn Hotel, located at 6031 Iliff Rd., is no longer accepting guests after numerous health and safety violations were found during an inspection conducted by the city.
“This is another sad example of a property owner choosing to run an operation that harms the neighborhood,”Planning Department Director Alan Varela stated in a news release. “They let what was once a good property deteriorate to the point where it is not safe to occupy.”
The City’s Code Enforcement, Albuquerque Fire and Rescue, and Environmental Health Department conducted an inspection Thursday and found multiple violations, which included some of the following:
- Broken or inoperable heating and cooling units.
- Severe plumbing issues, including broken faucets and sinks, non-functioning toilets, bathtubs that would not drain, and visible water leaks.
- Significant structural damage, including broken windows, holes in walls and ceilings, and damaged doors.
- Unwrapped and used syringes along with drug paraphernalia.
- Filthy mattresses, dead mice and cockroaches.
- Rooms lacking smoke detectors or had non-functioning smoke detectors.
- Lack of fire extinguishers
- Exposed electrical wiring
Albuquerque Community Safety (ACS) met with and offered services to seven individuals, including a family of four that ACS assisted in transitioning from the motel. All seven individuals had access to alternative housing and support resources, according to the city.
The Animal Welfare Department (AWD) took in one dog that was abandoned by its owners.
The closure comes just days after the city shut down the Motel 6 next door for being a crime hotspot and having multiple code violations.
