ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The opening game of the girl’s class 5A quarterfinal round featured No. 3 Mayfield and No. 5 La Cueva. The Bears pulled off the upset and won 44-33.
From the start, La Cueva was a menace on defense. In the first half alone, the Bears recorded ten steals and scored 13 points off of turnovers. The defensive effort sparked an 11-0 run for La Cueva.
For the game, the Bears shot 16-37 (43.2%) from the field. The team was led by Jordyn Dyer. She finished the game with 25 points, seven rebounds and seven steals.

With the win, the Bears move on to the semi-final round on Thursday at 9:45 a.m. They will play the winner of Sandia and Rio Rancho.
