Girls 4A quarterfinal – Valencia completes 4th quarter comeback against Academy 

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The opening round of the girl’s quarterfinal round tipped off early Tuesday morning in a No. 4 vs No. 5 matchup in class 4A. Valencia and Albuquerque Academy went down to the wire as the Jaguars came from behind to win 37-34.

After trailing big lead in the first quarter, the Chargers got hot in the second. Academy outscored Valencia 13-3 and held the Jags to only one bucket. The Chargers held the lead and took a seven point advantage into the 4th quarter.

In the 4th, the Valencia defense stepped up and held Academy without a field goal. The Chargers only scored one point. Offensively, Valencia shot 50% in the final quarter.

Valencia was led by Eden Montgomery. She scored 11 points and recorded 8 rebounds, which were both team highs.

With the win, the Jags improved to 25-7 on the season. That marks a program record. The team now advances to the semi-finals on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. That game will be against the winner of Kirtland Central and Hope Christian.
