ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – What started as surveillance on a suspected stolen vehicle back in January—turned into a dangerous, high-speed chase— with deputies stopping the driver as he headed into on-coming traffic, leading to his arrest on I-25. According to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was patrolling around Jerry Cline Park, near Constitution Ave and Louisiana Blvd.
The deputy noticed a gray KIA backed into a parking spot that had a cover over a rear window, and no rear license plate, leading him to believe it was likely stolen. The vehicle left, and deputies say they watched the driver run several red lights, and pass other cars on the shoulder. law enforcement attempted two separate traffic stops, but were unsuccessful. Eventually, the vehicle ended up driving onto oncoming traffic on I-25, where the driver, identified as 35-year-old Victor Galvan, was finally stopped.
He was arrested and booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center that night. Galvan faces charges of receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle, evading an officer, and reckless driving. He pled not guilty.
