I-10 west near Lordsburg closed after vehicle hauling excavator hits bridge

LORDSBURG, N.M. (KRQE) – Interstate 10 west closed near exit 24 in Lordsburg after a commercial vehicle carrying an excavator hit a bridge Friday, according to the New Mexico Department of Transportation.

NMDOT said in a Facebook post that the crash caused “significant damage to the bridge deck and other components.” Engineers are currently on-site to assess the structural damage and determine what repairs are needed.

Westbound traffic is being rerouted off and back on at the exit ramp, and drivers should expect delays. The crash happened around 8:49 a.m., NMDOT said.
