Lowe, a Florida native, had lent his voice to several animated Cartoon Network shows, but was perhaps best known for his role “Space Ghost Coast to Coast,” the network’s first original program aimed at older late-night viewers. The show centered on Space Ghost, an aging superhero, after he retired from crime-fighting to host his own talk show with real-life celebrities. Over 100 episodes were produced between 1993 to 2012, according to IMDB.

Adult Swim, the Cartoon Network programming block inspired in part by “Space Ghost” and the network’s other adult-oriented shows, posted a tribute to Lowe on social media. Fans flooded the comments section, calling him a “legend” and “the best to ever do it.”

“The king of Adult Swim,” one fan wrote.

Florida radio host “Marvelous Marvin” Boone also paid tribute to his longtime friend in a Facebook post on Tuesday morning, saying he was “beyond devastated.”

“My Zobanian brother and best friend for over 40 years, George Lowe, has passed away after a long illness,” the post said. “A part of me had also died. He was a supremely talented Artist and Voice actor. A true warm hearted Genius.”

Boone went on to call Lowe “the funniest man on Earth.”

“I’ve stolen jokes from him for decades. He stole some of mine. He was also the voice of Space Ghost and so much more,” Boone wrote.

As of Wednesday morning, Lowe’s cause of death had not been made public.
