ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The ABQ BioPark has announced a partnership with Chevron to help strengthen conservation efforts for the state’s native species. Chevron will now serve as an official conservation partner of the ABQ BioPark, donating $600,000 over the next three years to further projects that protect animals and habitats in New Mexico.
One species expected to be helped is the Rio Grande cooter, which is considered near threatened. The ABQ BioPark said they will have a small population to help safeguard genetic diversity and to help with reintroduction efforts. The New Mexico Biopark Society will manage the partnership and oversee the funds.
