SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – Several bills aimed at reforming the state’s Children, Youth, and Families Department (CYFD) passed through the House judiciary committee Saturday. House Bill 5, which would create an independent office to oversee child welfare in the state, was unanimously voted to pass through the committee.
One of the functions of that office would be to review CYFD policies and procedures. Another proposal, which would create a commission to appoint CYFD’s leadership, also passed the committee.
