Temperatures are warming across the state this afternoon as a high pressure system moves in. However, March is expected to kick off with back to back storm systems.
A high pressure system continues to move down into northeastern New Mexico today. The high will be in place by mid-afternoon tomorrow. This high pressure is bringing rapidly warming temperatures and clear sunny skies today through Saturday.
The clear skies will be good news for those hoping to catch a glimpse of the planetary alignment tonight. Tonight, often referred to as the “Parade of Planets” will showcase 6 planets aligning just after sunset. Mars, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn will be visible to the naked eye. Uranus and Neptune will be visible with a telescope. The next planetary alignment will not take place until April 15th.
The first storm of March will move in on Sunday. The low pressure system will track far to northern New Mexico. The good news is that the low pressure will be drawing up more moisture than originally anticipated. This weekend storm will bring isolated chances for mountain snow and valley rain in Northern New Mexico Sunday through Tuesday.
The next storm system is forecasted to move in next late week. With another storm forecasted for next weekend. Early March is shaping up to be an active one. While the back to back storm system do look promising. The biggest limiting factor will be the available moisture.
The back to back storm systems are also aiding in very breezy to windy days for most of New Mexico. While today is a bit of a reprieve from the winds. They will start right back up on Saturday. The strongest wind gusts are expected to move in statewide on Monday and Tuesday.
