ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man who admitted to accidentally shooting and killing his girlfriend in April 2017 was sentenced to one-and-a-half years behind bars with a probationary period of one year to follow.

40-year-old Scott Bachicha first told police an intruder broke into the home of his girlfriend, Mindy Stuart. He originally claimed he was asleep in the living room and awoke to gunshots. However, he later confessed to messing around with a shotgun when it accidentally went off and killed Stuart. The defense stressed that the shooting was accidental, citing testimony from officers on scene and forensic evidence. Ultimately, Bachicha was sentenced to one-and-a-half years behind bars with a probationary period of one year to follow.
