NMDOH encouraging parents to teach kids healthy dental habits

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Local health experts are urging parents to teach their kids healthy dental habits at an early age. Throughout February, the New Mexico Department of Health is raising awareness about oral hygiene, saying healthy teeth are essential to a child’s overall well-being.

NMDOH said proper dental care includes brushing and flossing at least twice a day, limiting sugary foods and drinks, and going for regular dental visits. The department is hosting several events throughout the month to provide educational resources, screenings, fluoride varnish, and dental sealants. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham also declared February 2025 as Children’s Dental Health Month.
