Man convicted of killing Alamogordo police officer pleads guilty in federal case

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (KRQE) – The man who murdered an Alamogordo police officer has pled guilty in federal court to possessing a modified shotgun used in the crime. In July 2023, Dominic De La O shot and killed Alamogordo police officer Anthony Ferguson during a traffic stop.

De La O used a sawed-off shotgun in the crime. Under federal law, the gun needed to be registered since the barrel was less than 16 inches and the overall length less than 26 inches.

Last year, De La O was sentenced to life behind bars for the murder of Officer Ferguson. He faces up to ten years in federal prison for the gun case.
