Farmington couple charged with child abuse

FARMINGTON, N.M. (KRQE) – Tuesday night, a Farmington couple is behind bars after locking their child in a chicken coop for months. Starting in September, detectives received a complaint from Child Protective Services regarding concerns for a child’s welfare. The 15-year-old told CPS she had been locked in a chicken coop for extended periods of time and exposed to extreme weather conditions.

According to court documents, 36-year-old Patricia Madrid and 59-year-old Jammy Jackson would only allow her to use the bathroom twice a day and was fed package ramen noodles while her siblings ate whatever they wanted. Detectives gathered evidence confirming those allegations and removed the child from the house.

Madrid and Jackson were arrested and charged with 14 felony counts of child abuse. They are being held at the San Juan County Adult Detention Center.
