NMDOH celebrates school-based health centers program

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The New Mexico Department of Health said school-based health centers are making a real difference statewide. The month of February is National School-based Health Care Awareness Month celebrating more than 80 centers across the Land of Enchantment helping keep kids healthy and in the classroom.

Just last year, the NMDOH funded 59 of the centers and expanded access to health services by funding telehealth and mobile health services to students in 41 additional schools. The centers offer primary health, preventative health care, treatment for all types of conditions, mental health care, and referrals. Last school year, the NMDOH centers served more than 16,000 patients regardless if they could pay.
