Another winter storm on the way Friday

The first of two storms are moving into New Mexico Tuesday bringing snow, rain, and wind. A stronger storm will bring more widespread snow and rain Friday.

A storm is scraping New Mexico Tuesday bringing scattered rain and mountain snow to northern New Mexico. This will continue through Tuesday night as snow moves into northeast New Mexico. Some minor travel problems may be possible overnight along I-25 in northern New Mexico and into northeastern parts of the state. This storm is also bringing in very windy weather, with these wind not dying down until early Wednesday morning. A strong cold front has also kept temperatures in the 20s this afternoon across northeast New Mexico and will help to bring in colder temperatures statewide on Wednesday.

Drier weather will briefly return to New Mexico Wednesday and Thursday. High temperatures Wednesday will be near and below average for most of the state before warming up again Thursday. High winds will also return Wednesday afternoon, but die down Wednesday night with calmer conditions Thursday.

Our next winter storm will move in Friday, bringing in mostly mountain/higher elevation snow and lower elevation rain through the day Friday. Snow levels may get down to 6,500′ though early Saturday morning. Temperatures will actually be above average Friday afternoon, keeping snow levels highs. Locally heavy snowfall may be possible at times across the northern mountains. Rain and snow will start ending Saturday morning with a few lingering rain and snow showers into the late morning. Temperatures will be slightly cooler this weekend as well before warming up again next week.
