Bill seeking to prohibit credit card fee tip deductions moves forward

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – A bill that would close a loophole in New Mexico’s current minimum wage policy is moving forward in the Roundhouse. House Bill 22 has passed its first committee.

If passed, the legislation would prohibit employers from deducting credit card processing fees from employee’s tips. This would ensure that when a customer tips with a card, the employer will pay the employee the full tipped amount. The bill will now move to the House Commerce and Economic Development Committee.
