More record high temperatures broken Tuesday

More record high temperatures were broken Tuesday across New Mexico. The stretch of spring-like weather continues through the end of this week.

It has been another record breaking warm afternoon across parts of New Mexico, with record highs set in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Farmington, Gallup, and Silver City so far. Parts of eastern New Mexico are over 20° cooler today though thanks to a cold front that moved in overnight. Despite the cool down, these temperatures are still above average for early February. Low temperatures tonight will again be mild for this time of year as this unusually warm airmass continues to hang around the state.

Spring-like high temperatures will return again Wednesday afternoon statewide. It will be much warmer though in eastern New Mexico thanks to a westerly, downsloping wind which could gust as high as 45 mph Wednesday afternoon. The breezy wind will combine with record warm temperatures and low relative humidity to bring an elevated fire danger across parts of New Mexico. Winds will die down Wednesday night though. Thursday and Friday will continue the stretch of above average and record or near-record breaking high temperatures. Breezy winds Friday will also again bring back an elevated fire danger to parts of the state.

Cooler weather will start moving in this weekend. The coolest air will only impact southern Colorado and northeast New Mexico Saturday before it will move across the rest of the state by Sunday. High temperatures will then be back closer to average for February. A weak storm system will clip New Mexico next Monday and Tuesday and will likely bring some light snowfall to the northern mountains and adjacent areas.
