ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A teenager who pleaded guilty to murdering a mother in front of her 7-year-old child was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Tuesday. Investigators say in 2022, Adam Sedillo and two other males opened fire on an SUV at a gas station near Interstate 25 and Comanche Road, firing approximately 30 rounds and killing Kayla Montaño.

Officials believe it was a case of mistaken identity, saying the teens believed someone in the SUV had robbed them. Sedillo pleaded guilty to first-degree murder last year and was sentenced to the maximum amount of years he was facing. Three of the others involved, Diamond Salazar, Estevan Lucero, and Ty Gallegos, were already sentenced; Salazar was sentenced to 19 years, Lucero was sentenced to 22 years, and Gallegos was sentenced to 10 years.
