CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – Carlsbad’s trial run for a single-use plastic bag ban will begin this weekend. Starting Saturday, retailers and restaurants will be barred from offering plastic bags to their customers. They are encouraged to provide paper or reusable bags for free or for a small charge.
Carlsbad City Council approved the ban last September. The trial period will last for two years. Proponents say plastic bags have become a nuisance in Carlsbad and will keep the city clean and protect animals.
