[1] APD brings forward bills to help investigate West Mesa Murders and other cold cases – State lawmakers are working to assist law enforcement in their investigations into the West Mesa murders and other cold cases. Over the years police reported Lorenzo Montoya and Joseph Blea as possible suspects in the West Mesa murders. Current state law prevents APD from entering Montoya’s DNA into their database to connect suspects to crimes since Montoya was killed in 2006. If passed, the bill would allow APD to enter a deceased suspects DNA into its ‘codis’ to connect them to unsolved crimes.

[2] Bernalillo County DA pushes for bill to outlaw gun conversion device – A bill making its way through the roundhouse aims to outlaw devices that make guns fully automatic. “Switches” are currently illegal at the federal level, but there’s no state law on it. Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman was at the roundhouse advocating for the legislation. Bregman argued that aligning with federal law will protect innocent lives.

[3] Clearer and milder weather with mostly calmer winds ahead – Cloud-free skies will develop for most of the day with calming winds for the most part as a high pressure from the west quickly moves in. The bigger warm-up with mostly drier air will arrive later this weekend into next week with record high temperatures possible.

[4] VIDEO: Santa Fe County deputies rescue child from house fire – Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Deputies Levi Abeyta and Rudy Vallejo responded to a fire at a mobile home before 6 a.m. Monday morning. One child had already made his way out of the fire, but the two deputies went inside to search for his younger brother. Deputy Vallejo saw a foot through one of the windows. The deputy then carried the child over his shoulder rushing to get him medical help. Deputies confirmed there were only two people inside, one of the two kids in the fire is still recovering in the hospital.

[5] Tim McGraw to perform at Sandia Resort and Casino in September – Tim McGraw is scheduled to perform September 5, 6. at Sandia Resort and Casino. Tickets go on sale this Saturday at 10 a.m. McGraw had a concert planned at Sandia last year but recovery from a knee surgery forced him to cancel that show.
