Box removed from Santa Fe Plaza obelisk base

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – KRQE News 13 got a look at the base of the Santa Fe Plaza obelisk now that the box surrounding it is gone. Crews removed the wooden box earlier this month after a judge ordered the Soldiers’ Monument be restored.

The box had been in place since 2020 when protestors tore the obelisk down during an Indigenous Peoples’ Day demonstration. In fact, a large chunk of stone on the base remains damaged. Security cameras are in place on the plaza to deter more vandalism.
