Return to average temperatures before a winter weekend storm

Temperatures are continuing their warming trend across New Mexico this afternoon. These gradual increases today are due to the Rex Block that is in place over the Pacific Coast. The resulting upper air flow allows for temperatures in New Mexico to increase.

Temperatures this afternoon will be warming to slightly below average temperature.

Clear and sunny skies are expected to continue throughout the rest of the day. Overnight cloud cover will roll in to the southern regions of the state.

The general warming trend will continue throughout the end of the week. Friday’s high temperatures are forecasted to be seasonably average.

Over the week cold Artic air will begin to make its way into New Mexico. Saturday will be round one of the Artic air. Snowfall on Saturday will be in northern and eastern New Mexico. The heaviest snowfall will be in the Northern Mountains and in the Northeast.

Snowfall will continue through Monday. On Sunday evening into Monday the snow will become semi-widespread. The heaviest snowfall will still be in the mountains. Central and southern New Mexico could see a few flurries or a rain/snow mix Monday afternoon. The second blast of Artic air will be arriving Monday. The coldest temperatures of the season across New Mexico will be seen on Tuesday. The primary concerns for this weekend winter storm are the snow and the cold weather.
