Albuquerque

  • January 10-11 The Show – Albuquerque’s longest-running comedy show happens every Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12.
  • January 10-11 New Mexico Ice Wolves vs. Lone Star Brahmas – Celebrating its 50th season in 2024-25, the NAHL is the oldest and one of the largest junior hockey leagues of its kind in the United States. Both games start at 6:30 p.m.
  • January 10-12 Grand Opening Event: Once Upon a Child – Join in for days of family fun, incredible giveaways, and amazing deals as Once Upon a Child celebrates their grand opening. 
  • January 11 Student Night at Stone Age – Student Night is a chance for young folk to come together and climb. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Entry is $14, including gear.
  • January 11 Rhythm in Unity: A Drum Unity Event – Come experience the power of rhythm, connection, and mindfulness. All levels are welcome. Starting at 2 p.m., bring a drum or use one provided.
  • January 11-12 Expo New Mexico Flea Market – Come check out the food, vendors and live entertainment at New Mexico’s largest open-air market. The market runs from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is $2 for walk-ups and $10 per car for parking.
  • January 11, 12 & 14 Immersive Yoga – Visit Electric Playhouse for a cutting-edge experience with 360-degree projections ranging from beautiful environments to surreal and imagined spaces. Classes reoccur every Saturday and Sunday at 8:30 a.m. and every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Price is $15 per person.
  • January 12 January Full Moon Run – Sign in starts at 6:30 p.m. with the Fun Run/Walk/Stroll launching at 7 p.m. Full Moon Run is always free and open to everyone.
  • January 15 Albuquerque Hiring Event – This year’s big recruitment event features a wide selection of career opportunities and employers. Bring plenty of resumes! The event runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • January 16 Beginning Square Dance Lessons – Starting January 16 and running every Thursday for 14 weeks, make new friends and build lasting connections in a welcoming and friendly environment while exercising your body and mind. The class costs $120, but the first night is free. No prior experience is necessary, and singles are welcome. The class is from 7 to 9 p.m.

New Mexico

  • January 11 Second Saturday Art Hop – Many Truth or Consequences downtown shops, galleries, and studios open their doors to the public from 6 to 9 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month.
  • January 11 Picacho Peak Guided Hike – Learn about the National Monument, the geology of Picacho Peak and the southern Rio Grande Valley, and the historic Butterfield Overland Trail that passed nearby. This 3 to 3.5-hour hike in Las Cruces is free of charge and starts at 10 a.m.
  • January 11 Raging River (Canvas Class) – Visit ADD: Just Kiln Me Now in Clovis and learn how to paint a lively mountain stream cutting through lush, green forests with majestic, misty mountains for $28 per person. This class is all about capturing movement and depth and starts at 6 p.m.
  • January 12 Sunday Chess Club – Meet at Popolo’s Games in Taos beginning at 1:00 p.m. This free event is for all ages.
  • January 12 New Mexico Runners vs. San Diego Sockers – It’s Beach Party Day at the Rio Rancho Events Center! Warm it up indoors & wear your favorite Hawaiian shirts & beach hats. The first 200 fans receive NM Runners sunglasses. Tickets range from $15-52 and kickoff is at 3:05 p.m.
  • January 13 Chess at the Movies – Visit the Violet Crown Cinema in Santa Fe on Monday nights for casual chess, great food, and movies. Play timed or untimed, against beginners all the way up to tournament veterans. Free to watch, play, or learn from the experts from 6 to 9 p.m.
  • January 13 STEAM Pop-Up with Explora! – Las Cruces Public Libraries partners with Explora Science Center to set up Science Technology Engineering Art and Mathematics (STEAM) stations for children of all ages to play with and learn. The event runs from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
  • January 13, 20 & 27 2025 Songwriter Competition – The Roswell 2025 Songwriting Competition is officially launched. Sign up to compete and get free tickets to attend The Liberty’s website. Round 1 is on the 13th at 6 p.m., with rounds 2 & 3 on the 20th and 27th respectively.
  • January 14 BABY & ME – Baby Care Group – Visit the Grants Public Library weekly support group for moms and moms-to-be who are breastfeeding, formula feeding, or planning to do a little bit of both. This event occurs every Tuesday from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
  • January 16 Adults Only Night at Meow Wolf – Meow Wolf Santa Fe is opening its doors exclusively for guests 21 and over. Enjoy the exhibit without kids and explore at your own pace in this adult-only experience from 6 to 10 p.m.

🔶 Explora, Sandia Labs partner to hold 2nd annual hackathon – Sandia Community Involvement, the Applied Machine Intelligence Organizations and Explora have partnered to host the second annual Thunderbird Hacks Hackathon.

🔶 ABQ BioPark discounts for SNAP recipients – The ABQ BioPark is reminding New Mexicans about the SNAP discount. State residents enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are eligible for a discount to the BioPark.

🔶 Downtown Growers’ Winter Markets coming back to Albuquerque – After a five-year hiatus, the Downtown Growers; Market is bringing back its Winter markets. The outdoor market at Robinson Park runs weekly during the warmer months, offering local growers and artisans a place to sell their wares.

🔶 Bands of Enchantment returns for 4th season – The City of Albuquerque is getting ready for a fourth season showcasing local bands. The city’s Bands of Enchantment T.V. series returns this month with a premiere at the Kimo Theatre.

🔶 City of Albuquerque looking for Homeless Coordinating Council volunteers – The City of Albuquerque is looking for volunteers to join subcommittees for the Homeless Coordinating Council (HCC). The city says the HCC is seeking members for five subcommittees.

🔶 What New Mexico laws go into effect in 2025? – With the start of a new year comes a series of new laws that will go into effect in 2025. In New Mexico, some of the laws will go into place on Jan. 1, 2025, while some others will become active mid-year. 

🔶 New Mexico Racing Commission investigating All American Futurity race – It’s the most lucrative quarter horse race in the country and it’s held right here in New Mexico. But four months after the All American Futurity, the $3 million purse for the winner still hasn’t been paid along with other high-stakes races from that day.

🔶 Albuquerque Public Schools changes date for students to take SAT exam to April 2 – Albuquerque Public Schools is moving the 2025 SAT school day to April. APS said the change was made based on feedback from other schools. The exam was previously scheduled for March 25 but will now take place on April 2.

🔶 Gateway Center in Albuquerque opens long-awaited respite center – It’s intended to be a safe space to recover for the most vulnerable in the city. Tuesday, the city showed off the long-awaited Medical Respite Center at the Gibson Health Hub. 

🔶 City of Albuquerque offers free music classes – The City of Albuquerque Department of Youth and Family Services is offering free music classes at different community centers across the city.

🔶 PHOTOS: Popular art gallery and wine garden for sale in Santa Fe – If you’ve ever dreamed of owning some of Santa Fe’s charm, a popular art gallery and wine garden is now for sale. Located on Canyon Road, the Ahmyo Wine Garden has been listed for $2.7 million right in the heart of the city’s art district.

🔶 Environmental Protection Agency approves relocation of uranium mine waste in New Mexico – Radioactive waste left behind from uranium mines in New Mexico will now be relocated. This is following a decision by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

🔶 WNMU board members resign as criticism of $1.9M severance package grows – The members of the Western New Mexico University Board of Regents have all resigned or will not be reappointed to their positions as of Tuesday. The move comes after the board received backlash and calls to step down for approving a $1.9 million severance package for the outgoing university president.

🔶 Judge rules Hermits Peak Calf Canyon Fire victims must be compensated for non-economic damages – It’s a major development that could reshape how much the feds payout to the victims of the largest wildfire in New Mexico history, sparked by the U.S. Forest Service (USFS). A judge recently sided with fire victims ruling the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) needs to pay for more than just property losses.

🔶 ‘The Cleaning Lady’ season 4 filming in New Mexico – The New Mexico Film Office announced that The Cleaning Lady began filming its fourth season in and around Albuquerque back in October. 

🔶 NMDOH: Overdose deaths declined in New Mexico in 2023 – New Mexico health officials announced on Tuesday that overdose deaths declined in the state in 2023.

🔶 Bernalillo County adds online tools for business registration, health permits – Bernalillo County added new online features for registering businesses and obtaining health protection permits.

🔶 NMED using legal settlement funds to create mobile air monitoring lab – The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) is using money from a legal settlement to fund a new mobile air monitoring lab in a region that NMED says produces nearly 40% of the nation’s oil and has rising ozone levels.

🔶 White Sands National Park shares December 2024 attendance numbers – We are getting a look at how many people visited on of New Mexico’s most photographed national parks last month. In December, more than 62,200 people visited the White Sands National Park, a 14% increase from the previous year.

🔶 Federal report: New Mexico sees 20% increase in homelessness – A new report released by the federal government showed that the number of people experiencing homelessness on a single night in New Mexico reached an all-time high in 2024.
