The snow from out latest winter storm has officially left the state. However, the bitterly cold temperatures are here to stay this afternoon.
The low pressure system that brought most of New Mexico snow yesterday is continuing its track southward into Mexico. While the low took the snowfall with it, it did not take the artic air. This morning was another bitterly cold one. Wind chill left all of New Mexico feeling the freezing temperatures. Into the northern mountains, feel-like temperatures were well below zero. This afternoon temperatures will still be cooler than normal for this time in January for most of the state.
Late tonight and into early Saturday morning an upper level trough will dip into northern New Mexico. Along with the trough, light snowfall will move in tonight for the mountains of Colorado. In New Mexico, no precipitation is expected on Saturday. However, breezy to windy conditions will be experienced across the state Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday, the snowfall will begin to shift southward. Snowfall is expected to be in the northern mountains and the northeast plains of New Mexico. Additionally, this trough could be bringing rainfall to New Mexico. Spotty showers are possible Sunday afternoon/evening for parts of northwest, central, and the Sacramento mountains.
New Mexico is expected to dry out and warm up early next week.
