KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Thursday, more than 300,000 Chiefs fans received an email asking them to complete surveys regarding a renovation to Arrowhead Stadium, or the possibility of a new Chiefs stadium.
The two surveys from the team, in partnership with research firm CSL International, will “provide additional data points and insight for the team’s path forward,” the team said in their release on Thursday.
One of the surveys focused on a potential new stadium and started by asking where fans would want to see it built.
“Because I’m from the Missouri side, I think that it needs to stay on the Missouri side,” said Chiefs fan Mary Heckadon.
“I would just leave it where it is right now,” said Dustin Kush.
“You know, it’s been there all my whole life and I think it’s home to the Chiefs.”
Another section of questions asked whether fans would like to see the new stadium with an open roof, like the current Arrowhead Stadium, or if they’d like to see a dome put on top of the stadium, among other options.
“I think they should go all out,” Heckadon said.
“I think a dome would be really cool.”
Most of the fans who spoke with FOX4 agreed.
“Definitely,” said Dana Herrera.
“Did you see the snow we got?”
A large portion of questions included the possibility of a personal seat license, a system where season ticket holders would pay a one-time fee for the license, and then have the “right and responsibility” to buy season tickets, according to the team.
Some of the graphics in the survey suggested that the PSLs could cost thousands of dollars on top of the price of season tickets. The licensing fee would be used to help finance the new stadium.
Despite the potential for increased costs, some fans said they would be on board.
“Yeah, I say do it,” Kush said.
“If it goes towards the new stadium or fix up the one that’s there, I’m all for it for sure. I got some buddies at new season tickets all the time, so man, tax it on them I guess” “
If that’s something that the ownership thinks is something they need to do to serve the fans, then I think that’s what they should do,” said Jack Hayslett.
Other sections asked about a domed stadium, but fans were split on that idea.
“I think they should go all out. I think a dome would be really cool. Open air is cool, but I vote dome,” Heckadon said.
“I love Arrowhead the way it is,” Hayslett rebutted.
“I mean, I’ve been here in Kansas City for a long time. I’d love for Arrowhead to stay where it is. But, you know, if it’s got to move, it’s got to move right? It’s not up to me, right?”
The second survey asked about fans’ ideas for renovations at the current Arrowhead Stadium and asked many questions about premium seating options and membership clubs, many of which would cost thousands of dollars annually.
Despite the cost, Hayslett understands how things can get expensive.
“That’s what sports is now; it’s really expensive whether that’s here in Kansas City or out on the West Coast, the East Coast or something like that,” he said.
“It’s expensive. So, if that’s how much it costs, that’s just how much it costs. People get pushed out, unfortunately.”
Fans who didn’t get an email are still invited to participate in the survey, you can find both surveys here.
