WHITE SANDS, N.M. (KRQE) – We are getting a look at how many people visited on of New Mexico’s most photographed national parks last month. In December, more than 62,200 people visited the White Sands National Park, a 14% increase from the previous year.
Overall, 702,236 people visited, which is a 4% decrease from calendar year 2023. On December 27, 2024, on-site interpretive programs were given to 1,461 visitors. Forty-seven visitors took the tour of Lake Lucero on December 14.
Some additional numbers of note, more than 1,000 of those visitors attended sunset strolls and park staff swore in roughly 1,500 new junior rangers.
