Snow and colder air moves into New Mexico next week 

Rain chances move out of southern New Mexico this weekend with warmer weather moving in. Colder air is on the way early next week, with light snow in the northern mountains.

Clouds moved into southern New Mexico today, bringing a few spotty showers early this morning. Most of that rain has ended this afternoon, but the clouds kept temperatures even cooler today across the southern half of the state. Tonight, areas of fog are developing around the Sacramento Mountains and may continue to form along the east slopes of the Sandias/Manzanos out to Santa Rosa, and also Las Vegas. Freezing fog is possible, which could cause a few icy spots to start the day. A few spotty showers will gain move into southeastern New Mexico to start the day, but will move out by noon. Drier weather returns starting Saturday afternoon, along with warmer weather. Temperatures will be even warmer on Sunday as westerly winds increase across the state.

A fast moving storm system will move into New Mexico next Monday. Precipitation with this storm continues to trend downward, with the best chance for snow in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Light snow will also be likely across the peaks of the rest of the northern mountains. Snow totals will be light with only up to 3″ at most. A few flurries to a dusting of snow is also possible across the I-25 corridor in northern New Mexico and east-central New Mexico. Temperatures will be colder too on Tuesday afternoon as drier air moves in. The coldest air of the season will move in Wednesday morning.

A warming trend will begin Wednesday afternoon though with sunny and dry weather sticking around through the end of next week. Temperatures will be back up to around average again for this time of year by nest Thursday.
