Deadlift competition in NW Albuquerque raises funds for nonprofit

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It’s not a sight you usually see: a charity deadlifting competition as a part of celebrations for Días de los Muertos, but that’s exactly what was going on Saturday at River Point Sports and Wellness.

Located in northwest Albuquerque, the competition was a maxed-out deadlift. This means each lifter has three attempts to hit their personal weight limit, but once you miss a lift, you cannot go down in weight to compensate.

Each contestant had one minute to attempt their lift.

“Today, we have 63 signed up. Everything that we do here today is 100 percent benefiting Locker 505. The people registering those funds are going to Locker 505, the vendors here all donated either cash or a prize to the raffle, so everything is going to Locker 505. We’re also taking clothing donations for them,” said Vanessa Anderson.

The gym said it cost $35 to register for the event. If you missed out on the lift, it’ll be back next year.
