Albuquerque man sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for 2019 crime spree 

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man has been sentenced to over a decade in federal prison for a crime spree in 2019. Authorities said Charles Chavez asked a homeowner in southwest Albuquerque if he could use a phone. The homeowner refused and Chavez pulled a loaded rifle demanding the resident’s truck keys.

Chavez abandoned the vehicle at a gas station on Bridge Blvd. where he carjacked another driver. He then tried to rob an ATM on Rio Bravo before a deputy arrived and Chavez fled the scene. He was caught shortly after. Chavez was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
