More widespread rain coming as temperatures cool off

Showers are storms are picking up across New Mexico this evening. Temperatures are cooling off across the state with the rain.

Widespread storms returned to New Mexico earlier today. The storms are thanks to a High Pressure System over Northern California. This system allowed for subtropical moisture to be funneled into the state. These widespread storms will be sticking around on Monday.

New Mexico can expect even heavier more widespread rainfall on Monday compared to today. Due to this, the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon Burn Scar Area. This Watch will go into effect during the afternoon of September 16th. The Watch will stay in effect through the evening.

By Tuesday, the High Pressure will move over the Great Basin. This will allow for continued rain chances through Tuesday Evening. Tuesday will be the last day this week for widespread rain as dry air moves its way back into New Mexico early Wednesday. This will significantly decrease rain chances to far east New Mexico. The rain will be spotty showers at best. Isolated storm chances will return to eastern and southeastern New Mexico on Friday.

The dry air on Wednesday will allow temperatures to climb once again through the end of the week. Record high temperatures will once again be possible in southeastern New Mexico.
