CABQ Parks & Rec. celebrates ahead of Hispanic Heritage Month with softball tournament

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The city’s Parks and Recreation Department held its first-ever softball tournament Saturday morning to celebrate the start of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Sunday marks the first day of the month dedicated to the Hispanic culture, especially here in the Land of Enchantment.

To celebrate, the city hosted what they hope will be the first of many ‘Camino Real’ softball tournaments.

City officials said Albuquerque is rich in Hispanic culture, adding that Hispanics make up the single largest minority group that participates in the sport of softball worldwide.

Roughly 60 teams took part in the tournament, and organizers hope to grow the event year to year. Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 to October 15.
