Albuquerque police to release details from August 17 officer-involved shooting 

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department is set to hold a news conference at 10:30 a.m. to release details of an officer-involved shooting in southeast Albuquerque that left the suspect dead on August 17, 2024.

APD says the incident began when officers were alerted that someone had shoplifted from the Family Dollar on Broadway. They said the suspect was armed and yelling they didn’t want to go back to jail. The suspect then reportedly barricaded themselves in a shed in the 400 block of Arno St, SE., near Broadway Blvd. and Lead Ave.

SWAT officers were called to the scene to negotiate with the suspect. Police said during negotiations the suspect fired his gun. APD says officers fired their weapons and the suspect was shot and died from their wounds.
