TAOS COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – A New Mexico photographer captured an incredible sight Thursday morning. Jay Shaffer witnessed the northern lights over Taos County.
Shaffer took a timelapse video of the event and saw red hues emerge in the sky around 2:23 a.m. Around 3 a.m. the lights got brighter and orange colors started to appear.
Per Shaffer’s video, the northern lights lasted until 5 a.m. when the sun started to rise. NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center said on “X” that geomagnetic storming could cause the north lights to appear.
The lights may be visible again in some northen states and Canada on Thursday and Friday night, according to the Space Weather Prediction Center’s aurora dashboard.
