Rain near The Metro but very warm

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Rain has mostly dissipated this morning but one more push of Monsoonal moisture will ensue today before things drastically change briefly tomorrow. Along with some wispy clouds leftover this morning with a dissipating high pressure system to the west, enough moisture in the mountains will produce some storms that will be faster-moving to the east than yesterday as the westerly winds aloft will eventually steer Hurricane Francine to the northeast after it makes landfall later today. Meanwhile, with the calm conditions in New Mexico once again this morning with light winds and still dry air, temperatures have dropped in the upper 30’s in the mountains, while elsewhere is mostly ranging from the 40’s to the 60’s, a tad warmer than yesterday morning though.

As temperatures across the region rise from the morning school commute into the high 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and lower 90 degrees by the afternoon, lingering moisture to the north, along with daytime heating, will still lead to some areas across the viewing area receiving doses of rainfall. Slightly less-widespread storms will most likely form in The San Juan Mountains, The Sangre de Cristo Mountains, The Western Mountains, The Northeastern Highlands, while a few showers are possible for a few in The Rio Grande Valley, as well as The Southern Mountains. Burn-scar flash flooding will still be unlikely. Within the areas that will rain, small hail, gusty winds, and some lightning strikes are possible.

Stronger upper-level winds, generally from the west-northwest, will push the storms to the east-southeast this evening, but then as a high pressure system falls apart southeast of The Four Corners tomorrow, moisture beneath it will dissipate while drifting east of the region. Where areas will remain mostly sunny, temperatures will still be a bit above normal as drier air will come in fuller force after today briefly with persistent southwesterly winds before the wetter and cooler pattern change this weekend.
