PNM warns residents and businesses about copper theft 

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – September is PNM’s Copper Theft Awareness Month and PNM is educating customers on how to help prevent copper theft and what to do if you are a victim.


How New Mexico’s Top Cop Is Addressing Crime, Traffic Enforcement

PNM says it has received 92 reports of copper theft from business in 2024. PNM received 84 reports in 2023. PNM says signs of potential copper theft could be fluctuating power, sparks, or visible arcs around transformers and meters. PNM warns business and residents against touching any transformers or wires if they suspect copper theft and immediately report it to PNM.

Tips to help deter copper theft:

Install protective devices on transformers and meters

Illuminate area using motion sensors

Install security cameras

Don’t leave equipment or metals exposed
