ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – On Saturday morning, Wilson Middle School staff and partners cleaned up their community garden of overgrowth to help teach lessons via the outdoors.
The gardening classes offer something unique to the students. It gives them an opportunity to learn about nutrition and sustainable agriculture along with giving them access to fruits and vegetables.
“We offer three classes during the day, part of it is the outdoor. We have the pollinator side and the vegetable and fruit side, and then we have an indoor grow lab where they learn hydroponics, aquaponics, seed saving, propagation, the whole nine yards,” said Principal Matthew Burrow.
The clean-up showcased Project Feed the Hood along with the International Healthy Community Coalition’s commitment to putting nutrition first for the community.
