On August 16, deputies saw a woman running on the side of the road near San Fidel. She told them she was in a domestic dispute with Albert Morgan. They questioned Morgan to get his side of the story.

Deputy: “Well, I’m asking you to tell me what’s going on.”
Morgan: “Did you ask her? Was she telling you?”
Deputy: “Yes. I’m gonna ask her some more, but I’m asking you for your side.”
Morgan: “Ask her some more. She’s running away. Just the way she’s getting mad at me. That’s it.”

Deputy: “So what’s going on? Why are you guys up here?”
Morgan: “We’re having sex. Is that what you wanna know?”

Morgan handed over his ID after multiple requests. While running his name, the deputy asked the woman what happened.

Deputy: “Did he hit you?”
Woman: “He physically choked me.

Morgan then approached the cruiser and made a threatening statement.

Morgan: “Can I tell her? Honey.”
Deputy: “No.”
Morgan: “Why don’t you tell her that I have a gun and I’m gonna go get it.”
Deputy: “Dude.”

Morgan grabbed his gun and walked toward the deputy with his arm behind his back.

Other Deputy: “Albert.”
Deputy: “Drop it dude.”
Morgan: “Do it. Do it. “
Deputy: “Drop it”
Morgan: “Do it mother******”

Morgan eventually got on his knees and then got up and pointed his gun at the deputies. The deputies and Morgan exchanged gunfire. Cibola County Sheriff’s Office deputies said Morgan died on scene. New Mexico State Police have taken over the investigation.
