NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The New Mexico Environment Department and New Mexico Department of Health are partnering to offer free domestic well water testing at the Corrales Harvest Fest on Saturday, September 28.
The water testing will be available from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and is free to the first 100 people or while supplies last. Anyone who wishes to get their water tested must bring their own water sample. “This water fair provides residents in Bernalillo County easy and affordable access to information about the quality of their private well water they would otherwise need to pay for,” Ground Water Quality Bureau Chief Justin Ball said in a release.
Water testing steps:
Let water run for two to three minutes before collecting sample
Fill clean glass or container with at least a quart or liter of water
If using a whole house filtration system, collect water prior to filtration if possible
Fill container as close to time of testing as possible
Test results will be mailed out within two to three weeks of the event. Residents testing their water should also have their well information such as, depth, casing material, depth to water, location, distance from nearest septic tank or leachfield system.
