NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Carlsbad Caverns is a tourist hot spot and the nearby communities are seeing the benefits. A new report from the National Park Service showed that over 300,000 people descended into the caves last year to see the unique rock formations and maybe even spot some bats. Those visitors spent almost $30 million in the nearby area and supported over 300 jobs. The park’s superintendent said people come for the grandeur caverns and end up supporting the economy along the way.
That new report from the National Park Service revealed that over 700,000 people visited White Sands National Park. Those tourists spent over $44 million in the surrounding communities. That spending supported over 500 jobs. The park’s superintendent said White Sands National Park is vital to the economy and that they’re pleased to share the rich history with people from across the country and the world.
