Groundbreaking on reproductive health clinic in southern New Mexico

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM)—New Mexico state and local leaders broke ground on a new reproductive health clinic in Doña Ana County, a strategic location chosen to serve the needs of residents and those from neighboring states.

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham said this reaffirms her administration’s commitment to protecting access to essential healthcare services after the Supreme Court’s Dobb decision, which significantly limited reproductive rights by overturning Roe v. Wade.

In a news release, the Governor’s office said the new facility would provide safe, comprehensive care to state residents and people who travel from other states. This includes residents from neighboring states like Texas and Oklahoma. Some of the strictest abortion restrictions have been made law.

“Access to reproductive healthcare should be a fundamental human right,” said Gov. Lujan Grisham.

“Once completed, this clinic will stand as a testament to our state’s commitment to reproductive freedom for residents of New Mexico, as well as those who travel here from out-of-state in need of this care,” she said.

The center will offer a comprehensive range of services, ensuring that all reproductive health needs are met once opened:

Medication and procedural abortion

Miscarriage management

Range of contraception options, including IUDs implants, emergency contraception, and hormonal and barrier contraception options

Pregnancy loss support and management
