Colfax County Sheriff’s Office Sponsors Crisis Intervention Training

August 30. 2024 the Colfax County Sheriff’s Office sponsored a week-long Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) at the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish office in Raton.

We were joined by the Public Safety Psychology Group (PSPG) from Albuquerque, which provided essential training to help law enforcement recognize and respond to individuals in crisis. The class was open to all local agencies free of cost. Officers from our agency, the Vigil Maldonado Detention Center, Detention officers from Curry County, and the Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office participated in hands-on scenarios, honing their verbal de-escalation skills and building confidence in handling situations involving mental illness.

The Colfax County Sheriff’s Department is committed to improving our response to those in need and ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.
